As one writer so eloquently put it "Caesar himself, returning victorious to Rome, had never been met with such an ovation as that which greeted Jussi Björling when he returned to the stage of the New York Metropolitan Opera in 1959, after an absence of 2 years"

No-one in the theatre that night however could have imagined that he was to be present at the artist's final performance. Björling's early death, on 9 September 1960, at the age of just 49, was a heavy loss to the world of singing. Of all the 20^th century tenors he was the one who possessed the most perfectly balanced combination of a voice of unmistakable beauty, exceptional musicality and technical assurance.

In this operatic recital another tenor of international renown, partnered by one of Wales's most distinguished accompanists, will sing a collection of arias forever associated with the legendary Swedish  singer, including excerpts from Puccini's Tosca and Turandot and Bizet's Carmen together with songs by Rachmaninov and Strauss.
