Britain's trumpet maestro, who enthralled the audience at St.Teilo's when he appeared with Sir Willard White at last year's Festival, makes a welcome return to Llandeilo. This is a musician for whom the word versatility was perhaps invented. Whether it be appearing as concert soloist with the London Symphony or Royal Philharmonic orchestras, accompanying Frank Sinatra on three of the great singer's tours, or working with the leading film director, Anthony Mingellla, on the sound-track of The Talented Mr. Ripley Barker has enjoyed a career of unrivalled success, something recognised by the award as "Best Trumpeter" on two occasions at the British Jazz Awards. In the musical "Lenny" at London's Apollo Theatre (under the direction of Sir Peter Hall) he even had a speaking role as well as playing all the trumpet parts ! Ian Shaw was named "Best Jazz Vocalist" at the BBC Jazz awards both in 2004 and 2007, has amassed a number of highly acclaimed albums and has been described as one of the world's finest male jazz vocalists. In fact the issue of his 2006 album "Drawn to All Things - the songs of Joni Mitchell" he was praised far and wide and described by Jazz Times as "the single greatest male jazz vocalist Britain has to offer"
