Julie Dunn
Julie Dunn has been living in the South West for the past several years since immersing herself happily in the amazing world of jazz (after being classically trained up to first degree level) and building a professional jazz career for herself from the early '90s, having obtained an MA in Music specializing in Jazz Improv and the Vocalist, World Music and Performance Studies at Kingston University, Surrey. Possessing a broad repertoire which embraces diverse elements of jazz, latin, swing, blues and contemporary folk-rock genres, her musical sound palette is enhanced by her love of singing in different languages, in particular French and Brazilian/Portuguese - the language of bossa nova composer Antonio Carlos Jobim, author of universally acclaimed hits such as Girl from Ipanema, One Note Samba and Corcovado. Julie has written a number of her own compositions and has recently been inspired to pen lyrics for several upcoming UK jazz artists including trumpeter Ray Butcher and "Zubop" pianist Philip Clouts. Julie regularly works with top UK jazz artists such as UK jazz pianist of the year 2002 John Horler, virtuoso sax/clarinet player Tony Coe and scion of renowned UK jazz family bassist Alec Dankworth, together with whom she will be appearing at a number of venues around the UK over the coming months and releasing a new cd later in 2010 with possible UK/European tours to follow.
