The Swingle Singers
There are few music lovers in the world who haven't heard the name The Swingle Singers. Since the release of their ground-breaking debut album Jazz Sébastien Bach in 1963, this eight-voice a cappella group has performed in every continent and on the world's most famous stages, sustaining over four decades a level of international popularity beyond the dreams of its founder, American born Ward Swingle.
The Swingle Singers may have been around since 1963, but fast-forward to 2010 and the current line-up is young, stylish, and at the forefront of the international a cappella scene. While the original groups performed jazz arrangements of classical pieces, the current group has added chill-out arrangements to their repertoire and beat-boxing to their vocal percussion. Add a dash of sexy choreography on stage and the result is a high-class, slick show which now appeals to an excited younger audience. Most recently, the Swingle Singers' music has been featured on Channel 4's TV sensation Glee. The group are also curators of the London A Cappella Festival, based at Kings Place in London, which had its inaugural festival in January 2010.
In just over 40 years they have delighted audiences at over 3500 concerts, won 5 Grammy awards, recorded 46 albums, appeared on hundreds of TV and radio shows worldwide, toured with orchestras, opera, ballet and contemporary dance companies...and have fans who span the globe.
