A Celtic Canvas - The life, work and times of Carey Morris (1882-1968).

Venue: Newton House
Time: 7.30pm
Admission: Free

Carey Morris was born in Llandeilo and lies buried in the graveyard of St. Teilo's, the spiritual home of the Festival. He was a man endowed with many gifts, as painter, illustrator, author and even 'cellist', but he has not perhaps received the recognition which he deserves, prompting no less a figure than Sir Kyffin Williams to write: He is a very talented professional artist whose work has been neglected. A Celtic Canvas is the first book to address this neglect, and it will be launched by the publishers, Y Lolfa, at Newton House. It has been written by Dr. Glyn Rhys, retired physician and close friend of the artist. Dr. Rhys has had unique access to the fragmented autobiography and papers of Carey Morris, which refer also to his skill as a cellist. The book, with its 101 illustrations, paints vivid pictures of Y Werin as well as of the squirearchy of Wales in Morris's time. The Festival is honoured to have been asked to play a part in such an auspicious venture. Speakers will include Dr. Brinley Jones and Lynn Hughes and wine will be served. The author will also be available to sign copies of the book.

In association with The Lolfa.
