It has been some time since the evening Festival programme has featured a Song Recital and it would be difficult indeed to imagine anyone better suited than the young Cumbrian contralto, Jess Dandy, to join the stellar array of distinguished singers who have graced the Festival since its inception. She is without doubt the foremost British contralto of her generation, having been widely praised for her instrument of velvety plangent timbre, and for her remarkable artistic immediacy and likened by the ‘Times’ to Kathleen Ferrier
Ceri Owen is a Welsh pianist, academic, and writer. As a pianist she specializes in song accompaniment and has performed widely in the UK and further afield. She was awarded the Pianist’s Prizes at the Grange Festival International Singing Competition and the John Kerr Award for English Song. She has performed in live and recorded broadcasts for BBC Radio 3.
